Wild Fox Zen welcomes
all earnest practitioners. We are dedicated to exploring the sublime
quality of human life by supporting wholehearted Soto Zen Buddhist
training.
The spirit and the subtle truth of Soto Zen are best learned through
earnest vivid sitting (shikantaza) and the forms of monastic training.
Working in this way, however, is not easy. Thus, Zen practice is best
suited to mature, strong and capable people who are ready to
investigate the phenomena before their eyes, looking deeply at human
life.
As a lancet to help us probe the depths of this life, we explore the
teaching of Dogen-zenji, the thirteenth century founder of Soto Zen in
Japan. In contrast to the modern world’s focus on “getting,” Dogen’s
Zen heart of “practice-enlightenment" inspires a distinctive
orientation to spiritual training which does not cling to getting that
which is “quick and easy.”
Wild Fox Zen offers a teacher to direct training, a small group of
practitioners who work closely together and a training environment for
dropping body and mind. Our program includes morning and evening zazen,
weekly classes, monthly Monday night dharma talks and monthly sesshin.
Our aspiration is eventually to found a rural monastery. We are now in
the beginning stages of developing Wild Fox Zen and most activities
occur in Dosho Port’s home, Yugeji.
Wild Fox Zen embraces the Buddhist tradition of dana or generosity. In
this way of giving and receiving, the dharma is offered without charge
and we receive gifts without judgment. Participants are invited to give
without expectation or agenda and receive the teaching while taking
responsibility for practicing it.
We invite you visit and participate in our blog at http://wildfoxzen.blogspot.com, to investigate our email newsletter, Wild Fox Drool, and participate in the practice at Yugeji.
